3 Ways To Have More Success Ice Fishing This Winter

About a year ago, I realized that my kids weren't doing that well in the sports we had signed them up for. After talking with my kids, I realized that there were some serious issues with a few of the things we had taught them, so I started investing more and more time into helping my kids to love the programs. It was incredible to talk with them about what they were struggling with, and I worked with their prospective coaches to figure out the details. Within a few months, it was clear that they were making great progress. This blog is all about helping your kids to enjoy sports.

If you didn't catch that many fish when you went ice fishing last winter, you need to change up your game. Here are a few different ways you can increase your success with ice fishing this winter.

#1 Try Plastic Bait

Although live bait is great because it wiggles around on the line and helps to attract the attention of passing fish, do not discount the usefulness of plastic bait. Many fish actually seem to be more attracted to plastic bait then they do live bait. Plastic bait is designed to move around in the water as well, and can really attract attention in clear water. Talk to your local bait shop about which plastic bait seems to work best in the waters where you want to fish.

#2 Get To The Bottom Of The Lake

If you want to catch some perch when you are ice fishing this summer, you need to get your line down to the bottom of the lake. Perch, as well as bluegills, like to hang out near the bottom of the lake, especially in the winter time.

To get them, you are going to want to make sure that you have a weight and  a spring bobber on your line. Then, take your line and bounce it along the bottom of the lake. You want your line to hit the bottom of the lake and bounce up. This will create dust in the water that will attract local perch and bluegills who will assume that the dust was created by something that they want to enjoy.

#3 Keep Your Rod Still

Sometimes the trick to catching a big fish while ice fishing is to keep things still. Set your rod down so that it is not moving. Letting your bait sit motionless in the water for a while. Set it in a stand so that the rod is motionless. It is hard to truly keep a rod motionless when it is in your hands.

Keeping the rod motionless can help catch fish that are looking for easy prey. When they see your bait sitting in place, not on guard at all, they may be tempted to dive in for the food.

Try the three tricks out above when you go ice fishing next winter and see if they help you bring in more fish. Be sure to also talk to fellow fishers and see what is working for them as well. For more information, contact companies like Extreme Tackle.
