3 Steps To Cleaning Your Marine Canvas
As someone who owns your own boat, there is a good chance that you might use marine canvas as a means of protecting the various components of your watercraft when it's not in use. Even though your marine canvas can be very effective at protecting your boat from the elements, even it needs a little bit of TLC every now and then. To help prevent mold and mildew from growing and to keep your marine canvas from getting too dirty, it's a good idea to clean it regularly. These are the three simple steps that you'll need to follow to do so.
1. Get Rid of Loose Dirt
First of all, after removing your marine canvas from your watercraft, you will want to remove the loose dirt so that you can make the rest of your cleanup job a whole lot easier. Luckily, this is simple. For smaller canvases, you can simply shake them off to get rid of dirt. For larger options, you may want to stretch them out on the ground and then use a clean broom to gently sweep the dirt off of them. Taking your time during this step and getting rid of as much of the dirt as you can will help make the next step a lot easier.
2. Scrub It
Once you have gotten rid of the loose dirt, your next step will be to give your marine canvas a good hosing and cleaning. Spraying it off with a water hose with a nozzle can be a good way to get started with getting it clean. If you want to be truly effective at getting it clean, however, you're going to need to get it a little soapy. Mixing up a mixture of your favorite gentle dish soap with water in a bucket, similarly to how you might mix up soap so that you can wash your car, is a good start. Then, use a sponge or a long-handled deck brush, depending on the size of your marine canvas and how dirty you want to get yourself, to scrub away any dirt or mildew. Afterward, make sure that you rinse it thoroughly to get rid of any dirt and soap.
3. Dry It
Before you put your marine canvas back on your watercraft or before you fold it up to store it, you'll want to make sure that it's nice and dry. Luckily, shaking off any excess water and then stretching it out in the sun and leaving it alone for a few hours should do the trick quite nicely.
